Study to Show Thyself Approved

Study to show thyself approved unto God, a Workman that need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:5).

As a Believer, it amazes me that many do not know what the word says about God’s promises. God has provided an instruction manual as to how we should live and deal with life’s challenges. Without knowledge of God’ word, there would be no spiritual growth.

Why We Need to Study God’s Word

Based on the Bible, below are some of the scriptures to support the need for study.

“I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stay from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you Lord; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth” (Psalms 119:10).

“For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two edge sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).

“For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patient and comfort of the Scriptures may have hope” (Romans 15:4).

Benefits to Studying the Word of God

Below is a list of tangible benefits to studying the word:

  • It increases our faith in God
  • It increases our knowledge of God
  • It deepens intimacy with God
  • It gives both wisdom and understanding of God
  • It equips us to share our faith and invest in others
  • It brings strength and guidance for life’s challenges

Where Do I Begin?

First, begin by praying and asking god to help you to read his word and provide revelation. Next, either start with a Chapter of the Bible (Suggestion: Proverbs, Psalms, 1 John) or choose a Topic (i.e Healing). Note: Google is a great resource for finding scriptures on specific topics.

I pray that this blog is instrumental in encouraging you to open your bibles and spiritually grow.
