Only God Can Judge Me

We have heard many say only God can judge me. That is a true statement. Only God can judge you and he will. Judgement will be based on choices and decisions you made while you were living. What does choices have to do with judgement? You will be judged by God where you will spend eternity based on the choices you have made in your lifetime.

“Choose ye this day who you will serve” (Joshua 24:15). “No man can serve two masters for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one and despise the other”(Matthew 6:24-26). “Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever, therefore wants to be a friend of the world make himself an enemy of God” (James 4:4).

I have prefaced this article with scriptures based on choices. Your entire path in life and where you will spend eternity is based on a some of choices and decisions you make. There are only two choices. You either choose to serve Christ or by choosing not to follow Christ you have chosen to serve the Devil. Our God, who is just will cast the final judgement. Below is what the Bible says regarding how God will judge us.

Judgement of the Nations

“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him; then, He will sit on the throne of his glory” (Matthew 25:31). “All the nations will be gathered before him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats”(Matthew 25:32). “and he will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left” (Matthew 25:33).

“Then the King will say to those on His right hand. Come you blessed of My Father; Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world” (Matthew 25:34). “Then He will also say to those on the left hand. “Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matthew 25:41). “and these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life” (Matthew 25:46).

Judgement (Bema) Seat of Christ

Believers judgement will take place in Heaven at the Bema seat also known as the Judgement Seat of Christ.

“Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him” (2 Corinthians 5:9). Everything we do right now has eternal consequences, so our goal must be to constantly please him. “We must all appear before the Judgement Seat of Christ. Each one will receive a reward for the things done in the body whether good or bad”(2 Corinthian 5:10). We will be judge on what we have done and our motives for doing what we have done. “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord; we persuade men. We are well known to God” (2 Corinthian 5:11). We can try to persuade men to follow Christ but the decision is entirely up to the individual.

Heavenly crowns will be the reward for God’s Children. “Now there is a crown waiting for me. It is given to those who are right with God. The Lord, who judges fairly, will give it to me on the day he returns” (2 Timothy 4:8).

The Imperishable Crown

Faithful endurance wins a heavenly reward which is an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved for you in heaven. “Everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an Imperishable Crown”(1 Corinthian 9:25).

The Crown of Rejoicing

The Crown of Rejoicing will be our reward where “God will wipe away every tear and there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain for the former things have passed away (1 Thessalonians 2:19).

The Crown of Righteousness

We will inherit this crown through the righteous of Christ who is what gives us the right to it and without which it cannot be obtained. This crown is an everlasting crown, promised to all who love the Lord and eagerly wait for His return. Through enduring discouragements, persecution and suffering or even death, we know for sure our reward is with Christ in eternity (2 Timothy 4:8).

The Crown of Glory

This Crown of Glory will not fade away. It will be awarded to all those who long for or love his appearing (1 Peter 4).

The Crown of Life

This crown is for all believers, but is especially dear to those who endure sufferings; who bravely confront persecution for Jesus even to the point of death. This crown is for all those who love God (James 1:12).

The Great White Throne Judgement

This throne referred to in Matthew 25:31 is called the White Throne of Judgement. This is where judgement on earth will take place.

“Then I saw a Great White Throne, and him that sat on it; from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them” (Revelations 20:11).

“I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the Book of Life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according their works” (Revelation 20:12).

“The sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them; and they were judged every man according to their works” (Revelation 20:13).

“Death and hell were cast into the Lake of Fire. This is the second death (Revelations 20:14). “Whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the Lake of Fire” (Revelation 20:15).

“I am now giving you the choice between life and death, between God’s blessing and God’s curse” (Deuteronomy 30:19). No one can make this choice for you, it is yours alone to make.
