When God? Waiting is Hard

We live in a society where everything is instantaneous. No longer is patience a virtue nor do we value the journey and the lessons learned while waiting on God. We all want instant gratification in this right now generation.

Have you ever received a word from God, but it looks like nothing is happening? It could have been a word through prophecy or God spoke it to you directly or through his word. These are the promises of God that we have to receive in faith. The Bible says, “Now faith is the substance of things hope for the evidence of things not seen”(Hebrews 11:1). “For all the promises of God in Him are yes and Amen, to the Glory of God through us” (2 Corinthians 1:20). It means the promises are guaranteed and confirmed through Jesus Christ.

“So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty (void); but it will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11).

“God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill” (Numbers 23:19)?

There were a number of people in the Bible that waited on the promises of God. Abraham was promised that he would be a father of many nations. He received the promise at 100 years old but had to wait 25 additional years. Noah spent 120 years building an Ark. He was warning the people of impending destruction of flood when they had never experienced rain before. We are not alone as we wait on God because he said in his word “he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).

Below are things we all can do while we are waiting on God to move on our behalf:

Believe That He Hears You

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him; that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us” (1 John 5:14).

Expect but Prepared for Unexpected Answers

“In the Morning, O Lord, You hear my voice; at daybreak I lay my plea before you and wait in expectation” (Psalm 5:3).

Hope in his Word

“You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word” (Psalm 119:114).

Trust in the Lord

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path” (Proverbs 3:5:6).

Resist Fretting and Anger

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his ways, over the man who carries out evil devices! Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil. For the evildoers shall be cut off, but this who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land” (Psalms 37:7:9).

Experience God’s Goodness

“The Lord is good to those who wait for him. To the soul who seek him” (Lamentations 3:25).

David Said “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living” (Psalms 27:13).

Waiting on God has to be one of the most difficult things to do in a believer’s spiritual walk. All Christians struggle with waiting on God; no matter how far you are in your Christian walk. Waiting for restoration, healing, deliverance, finances and breakthroughs are hard. The Word of God says, “But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be complete and whole and lacking nothing” (James 1:4).

The old Saints used to say, If God said it, then that settles it. I encourage you today to take God at his Word. For the Bible Says, “Behold I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
